Dogs are the best friend of everybody. It is loyal and obliging. However, you will need to train the dog carefully before it is able to be your best friend. In fact dogs are brilliant and can be tough. Only when you train your family pet, getting him to stay put in a place is important. It will be very frustrating to have your guest being uncomfortable when your dog is pouncing or jumping around. Conversation is impossible when you have to search for your dog continuously in the park because it just does not stay in one place. Hi! I have always wanted to teach my dog with a clicker but didn’t start when I got him. He knows alot of tricks now but I’d like to switch him over to clicker training. Could someone really explain the concept to me, and tell me how and why it’s done? Or give me a resource to get the info! There has been a lot of publicity in the last few years and even recently about dogs being left in hot overheating cars in the hot summers, by now most people know that hot cars are a real danger for dogs but there are still some of you out there that don’t seem to take the situation serious enough, or don’t realise how quickly the situation can change.

Every year dogs die because they are trapped in a heated car while their owners go into a shop, store, or any other situation when the dog will be left for long periods of time.

Dogs do not have the ability to sweat in heated conditions causing them to overheat a lot quicker than humans, along with the dog’s big fur coat; this makes a recipe for disaster on a hot day. As the heat rises outside it can be less than 10 minutes before your dog is screaming to get out in the agonising heat of the car.

You may think that your car windows being slightly open will help your dog and keep them cool, but this is not the case. If your car windows are slightly open then there will not be enough fresh air coming in to cool your dog quickly enough and if you have your windows fully open you risk loosing your dog in an unfamiliar place or even get stolen.

When a dog overheats it causes a very agonising death, if you have to rescue or treat an over heated dog you should cool them down with cool water ( not cold, this could cause to much shock to the system), or use a wet towel and wrap them in it, feed them cool water or a nice ice cube to lick and then proceed to consult a vet about the situation and get a full examination for your dog.

There are no guarantees with which dog breeds will behave in certain ways and there will always be exceptions in every breed of dog but there are many characteristics that you can look out for when finding the correct breed for you, here are some of the top dogs in order of ease to train and how quickly they pick up the different tasks and activities.

Labrador Retriever

The Labrador retriever is a very affectionate dog that takes well to unknown strangers, very friendly and the best of our choice of dogs that are easy to train.

Australian Cattle Dog

The Australian cattle dog is yet another easy breed to train and teach new tricks to due to their passion for learning, not so good with other pets and may be a bad choice if other pets are around at your home.

Sheepdog

Sheepdogs are renowned for being a good well behaved training dog on places such as farms and holdings. Although good and faithful to owners, these dogs don’t take so well to other people who are not familiar, if you have many visitors to your home it may be a choice of breed.

Australian Shepherd

This is again a dog with very high drive to learn new things and explore things further but is not as friendly as the Labrador retriever at the top of the list and is not as energetic either, but is a good protector of the home.

Border Collie

The border collie is not as trainer friendly as some of the breeds above but is a very hard working dog with lots of affection and energy. The border collie enjoys challenges and challenging training schedules. If you cannot spare at least an hour of intense exercise this might not be the correct dog breed choice for you.

There are many other dog breeds around, and you may prefer other training breeds so before getting a dog be sure to explore all aspects to make sure the chosen dog is correct for you.

I have a 9 month old GSD and am curious at what age i can start his personal protection and muzzle fighting work. I know he will bite because we have performed the character tests as well as some pre-sleeve training at home. I’ve never owned pups. Before, i only bought fully trained dogs but my grandfather left me this dog when he died a couple months ago so I kept him and tested him and he seems to be born for the work. Any one know at what age Helpers are willing to start training? I’ve owned and handled dogs with various titles to include Schutzhund, KNPV, and Ringsport so i’m not worried about the work.
the reason i want muzzle fighting is because my wife and young son take him out on the days when I work late. She will be concerned with my kid while the dog keeps the guy/girl on teh floor until help arrives. Oh, and personal protection does not make a dog mean. In fact, it does the opposite because a degree of obedience is necessary before starting any type of protection work and even more is implemented when the training begins. If you don’t know about truely training dogs, please dont’ answer only opinions.
i’m not sure who or what you are talking about me asking a similar question before. It is possible however, that I left my account signed on and someone asked a question. I personally ahve never trained dogs but i have been a handler in the events and owners. There is a difference between being a handler and a trainer. I will investigate the acqusation about an earlier question however. I appreciate you bringing that to my attention.
tripforyou, let me thank you for brining this issue into light. As stated earlier, my eldest son seems to be at a point where he thinks he is older than he really is. He thinks he can ask ans speak however and whenever he wants. Believe me when I say I will handle this matter personally. To clearify, i did not ask this question earlier. I have found who did and in what manner and words they did. I appologize to anyone who answered the previous question and was offended by the response of my son. To all those that did answer this question, thank you. Your input and opinions are welcomed though not always agreed with. This situation will be handled ASAP.

Dog comfort is a big issue for your dog and getting it wrong can cause your dog to be grumpy, aggravated more easily, and in a worse state of health than if they sleep in a more adequate place, but what is perfect sleeping conditions for your dog?

Much research has been done on the way dogs sleep and what they find more comfortable and where it is best for it to be, but in this article we will only cut out the uninteresting bits and give you the best requirements for your dog.

Your dog will sleep an average of 11-12 hours a day, and as they get older that number will increase more because older dogs need more time to regain their energy back. If your dog isn’t getting enough sleep it may be because you’re not doing one of the following requirements of a dogs sleeping comfort.

To begin, the chosen area needs to be well away from drafts and doorways which could cause drafts and cold air to circulate around your dog, if your dog is cold any muscle and joint pains they have will worsen and make it hard for your dog to sleep.

For padding, you should ensure a really soft space that will help to support the body fully. Use a cushion or lots of blankets to make the padding, to again help any aching joint problems and give maximum support and sleep comfort to your dog.

The last issue is the placing of your dogs bed, dogs need to be easily accessible for the family to care for them, but they don’t like to have their routines broken all the time so keeping the dog bed in the same place is essential to keep you dog happy, if the dog bed is always moved it will cause them to be uncomfortable in their new surroundings and be overly aware of unfamiliar noises.
